Healthy and sustainable city houses
Period: 2008
Improving the climate for the benefit of people, the environment, and the economy. That is the goal and the mission of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative (RCI) and it’s main partner the Rotterdam municipality. Rotterdam alderman Hamit Karakus invited WAACS and Origins to demonstrate their vision on healthy and sustainable urban architecture in a sustainable redevelopment of two buildings ready for demolition in the centre of Rotterdam.
WAACS/Origins transformed two tilting oversized city mansions with bad foundation and dark mossy gardens into a sustainable and green city oasis with 3 spacious and bright city houses, a ground floor with a public/commercial function and plenty of parking space in the basement. This study proves that it is possible to realize healthy and sustainable urban architecture based on ‘state-of-the shelf’ technology and materials and within the regular commercial and legislative boundaries and that can be realized within two years from now.
